The search for a new PSNI chief constable gets underway today, with newspaper advertisements seeking applications for the role. The current chief constable, Hugh Orde, is stepping down in September and, because of the strict rules governing who is eligible, his replacement will have to come from a force outside the North. The job carries a salary of almost £200,000-a-year. For the first time, will be involved in the recruitment process, with Assembly member Alex Maskey sitting on the seven-member selection panel.
