The Archbishop of Tuam has criticised those who are have been predicting that Our Lady will appear at Knock Shrine in Co. Mayo. Thousands gathered at the shrine earlier this month after a Dublin-based clairvoyant predicted Our Lady would re-appear at the scene of the 1879 apparition. Today Archbishop Michael Neary said the apparition in 1879 was neither sought nor expected by humble, honest people who were its astonished witnesses. He said it is not healthy, does not give glory to God and certainly is not good witness to the faith to be looking for extraordinary phenomena. Archbishop Neary said recent events at Knock obscure its essential message and risk misleading God's people and undermining faith. He said for this reason such events are to be regretted rather than encouraged.
