A 23-year-old Irish man who was critically injured during an assault in Australia over the weekend has died in hospital overnight. Gearoid Walsh, from Dublin, suffered serious injuries during a row with another man outside a takeaway in the Coogee area of Sydney on Sunday night. He had been on a life-support machine since then, but died in hospital last night. The 23-year-old only travelled to Australia a month ago on a working visa. He was on a night out with his brother in the beachside suburb of Coogee when he became involved in an altercation with a man at a takeaway. During the row, he stumbled and fell, hitting his head on the ground. A post mortem examination is due to be carried out on his body, with the results set to determine whether the police launch a manslaughter investigation.
