The Ireland for Europe group is to launch its national campaign for a Yes vote in the Lisbon Treaty referendum later today. It is to hold a rally in Meeting House Square in Temple Bar in Dublin, which will be addressed by campaign director, Pat Cox. Chairperson of the group, Brigid Laffan, said the group is a people's campaign. She said; 'We have got all the assurances that were needed about the issues that were of concern the last time around.' 'We were worried that if the referendum campaign was left just to politicians that we might have the same result as the last time' The No side has also been stepping up its campaign this weekend. Sinn Fein wants the treaty to be rejected on October 2nd. Party President Gerry Adams said that ratifying Lisbon will not help the economy and will further undermine our economic viability.
