The Irish Kidney Association said they hope the success of the Irish Transplant Team will encourage people to get an organ donation card. The team recently won 22 medals at the 17th World Transplant Games in Australia. Colin White, the team manager, said carrying an organ donor card helps give people in need of a transplant a second chance at life. The Association also revealed it needs to secure a quarter of a million euro to sponsor next year's European Transplant & Dialysis Games which are being held in Ireland. The event will see over 400 athletes from 23 countries come to Dublin to compete. The athletes will be either transplant recipients or on dialysis awaiting transplant. This is the first time that Ireland will host the Games and the Association said that it will be the biggest organ donor awareness event of 2010.
