Lexus in bid to swoop on Ford and VW with new CT200h hybrid

This is the latest hybrid from Lexus. The new model, the CT200h, is going into the biggest market segment where Ford Focus and VW Golf are big players. Lexus sees it contending in the top end of this market where a growing number of marques now compete. Economy, low emissions and high-end furnishings are the important factors here to win new sales.

The Lexus look is retained, with strong hints of the RX450h, and while the price is expected to be in the region of €30,000, Lexus points to the hybrid technology which brings the CO2 emissions down to a very low 89g/km and to the high-level luxury Lexus interior finish. Also there is good use of the interior space with the battery pack neatly tucked away so there is extra room for passengers and their luggage.

The combination of a 1.8-litre petrol engine with the hybrid technology gives the CT200h a good turn of speed combined, with a claimed fuel economy of 80mpg.
