BALLYMENA 34

TERENURE COLLEGE 3

Eaton Park

TERENURE'S season continues to go from bad to worse. Without a win this season they crashed heavily yesterday on a day the home side ran in five tries and didn't touch down once themselves. Terenure's day began badly when their journey from Dublin took four hours because of traffic. Within three minutes of the start they were in trouble with full-back Jamie Smith getting through for the first of five tries. The visitors responded and twice were off target with penalty efforts before the home side responded with a Craig Woods penalty. Ballymena led 8-0 at half-time and after the restart winger Tommy Seymour booted the ball clear from half way to outpace the cover and score in the corner.

Midway through the half Terenure centre James Bollard dropped a goal to cut the deficit to 12 points. Terenure then had their best spell of the match when twice they threatened the Ballymena line only to lose possession with the line at their mercy. The home side had no such problems and they took control with full-back Jamie Smith getting through for his second try. Woods added the conversion.

Ten minutes from the end Woods himself broke through the cover for a try after a move from halfway instigated by a Jamie Smith dummy. Four minutes into added time Ian Whitten added a fifth Ballymena try.

A pair of second-half tries from Tommy O'Donnell and centre Giles Boland helped UL Bohemian secure a precious victory over Young Munster yesterday. Young Munster dominated the opening half but their 6-3 interval lead was scant reward for their work.
