Birmingham boss Alex McLeish was disappointed his side did not take all three points from their eagerly anticipated top-of-the-table Championship clash against Mick McCarthy's Wolves.

Birmingham looked to be heading towards victory after substitute Cameron Jerome fired home shortly after the restart. But Sylvan Ebanks-Blake hit a 74th-minute equaliser to ensure both had to settle for a 1-1 draw in an enthralling encounter at Molineux.

The clash could have gone either way as Birmingham enjoyed the better of the opening 45 minutes. But Wolves came to life after the 48th-minute opener and maintained their six-point lead at the top.

McLeish said: "I've got mixed feelings. It's great to come here and not lose, that's the best we've played away from home all season, especially in the first half."

McCarthy felt it was a fair result. "First half it was fairly even with lots of chances, but maybe they just shaded it. But overall I thought it was a fair point for both sides. We certainly deserved a point."

High-flying Burnley meanwhile – managed by former Irish international Owen Coyle – swept Derby away 3-0 with the goals all coming before the 23rd minute. Martin Patserson got one, Kevin McDonald two.
