Yesterday's cold snap played its part ruling out two of the fixtures in the men's Irish Hockey League second round ties. Both were in Pool B, the Fingal v Three Rock Rovers tie at Dublin Airport and the Monkstown v Lisnagarvey tie at Rathdown School.

The first result at last emerged late in the day and saw Glenanne score a 4-1 win away against Cork Harlequins, their margin of victory enabling them to pick up the bonus point by winning more than two goals.

The frost also put paid to one of the women's Irish Hockey ties at Belfield, where UCD played host to Ballymoney in Pool B but the other two ties in this group went ahead with wins for Hermes and Cork Harlequins.

Hermes came away from Armagh with a 2-0 victory, both goals arriving in the space of three minutes in the closing quarter with Jenny Kinch and Anna O'Flanagan getting one apiece.

Cork Harlequins' Karen Bateman plundered the only goal of the match in their home tie with Pembroke Wanderers meanwhile.
