FORMER jockey Emmet Butterly has made a bright start to his training career, thanks mainly to the exploits of Cyber Snow who made it three wins from four starts for the Donegal-based trainer in the Gain Horse Feeds Encourage Breeders To Go Racing Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse yesterday. The 5-2 favourite took it up under Keith Donoghue before the final flight and went away to score by two-and-a-half lengths in the colours of JimaFerry. Butterly commented: "Good ground is the key to him. With that in mind there's probably not much of the season left for him but we'll look at the Leopardstown November Handicap."
The JP McManus-owned Galliana was a warm favourite for the opening Winter Festival 2010 Mares Maiden Hurdle but she was let down by her jumping and came under pressure from the final flight to finish only fourth behind absent trainer Tom Hogan's 33-1 outsider Moon Over Moscow. John Cullen's mount put her head in front between horses in the closing stages to beat the dead-heating pair of Milbig Lass and Burton Girl by half a length.
Milbig Lass's trainer Paul Nolan enjoyed better luck in the Winter Festival 2010 Maiden Hurdle with the 10-11 favourite Gala Dancer who jumped his way to the front under Paul Carberry at the fourth-last flight to hold Moscow Storm by eight lengths. Nolan said of the half-brother to Cloone River: "He was probably run off his feet early on but easier ground and a longer trip will suit him better. Hopefully he'll make a nice handicapper."
Restricted trainer Andy Lynch, who was formerly Noel Meade's travelling head lad, saddled Ahorsecalledmolly to take the ITBA M/L/W Region & Gain Horse Feeds Support Local Racetracks Beginners Chase for owner Tom Manning. Sent off the 11-8 favourite, the nine-year-old was having only his second outing over fences and was ridden to his one length victory by the unrelated Andrew Lynch.
Meanwhile Information, a 6-1 chance owned and trained by Jim Brennan, denied the favourite Schindlers Society by a length-and-a-quarter when taking the honours in the www.fairyhouserace course.ie Handicap Chase in the hands of Conor Maxwell.
