Jonny Wilkinson inspired Toulon as the big-spending French side downed Ospreys to launch their Heineken Cup Pool Three campaign with a 19-14 home victory. Shane Williams looked set to give the visitors a famous result on the road when his try just before the hour mark put Ospreys ahead. But Wilkinson's pass allowed Paul Sackey to cross for a match-winning try with four minutes remaining at the Stade Mayol.
In Leinster's group, a sloppy performance saw Saracens suffer a heavy 25-10 defeat in Clermont-Ferrand.
The home side did not create a huge number of chances in the game, but they did not have to as Saracens did much of the hard work for them through carelessly giving away penalties and turnovers.
The final moments of the match summed it up well as Saracens, desperately pushing for three points to earn a losing bonus point, gifted away possession for Clermont to seal the win with an easy try for Napolioni Nalaga.
Leicester Tigers survived a real scare against Italian side Benetton Treviso. Alesana Tuilagi powered through for a face-saving winning try in the 77th minute to finally steer the Tigers to 34-29 victory at Stadio Comunale di Monigo.
Leicester also claimed a bonus point following earlier scores from Matt Smith, Craig Newby, Martin Castrogiovanni and Ben Youngs.
The home side had led 29-27 before Tuilagi's late score, thanks to two tries by centre Tommaso Benvenuti and 19 points from the boot of Kristopher Burton. The result was heartbreaking for the majority of a sell-out crowd at Treviso.
A Stephen Jones masterclass and some adventurous play saw Llanelli Scarlets run out easy winners in an entertaining encounter at the Parc y Scarlets.
Two late tries gave the scoreboard a friendlier look for Perpignan, but the truth was they were well beaten 43-34.
