It's the season that seems to be refusing to take shape. After last week's results saw a reversion to a more routine-looking table, Friday night's fixtures turned it again. Bohemians, and in particular Brian Murphy, had spent the build-up talking about how much stronger the champions were only to then lose their first game of the season at home to Cork City. Dave O'Neill scored to secure a second successive victory for Paul Doolin's side.

Derry City reclaimed top spot but not in the fashion they would have favoured as Galway – keeper Barry Ryan especially – held them to a 1-1 draw. It's a result that would have left St Patrick's Athletic ruing their 2-1 defeat at the Carlisle Grounds even more – Bray Wanderers' first of the season – as they could have leapt to first, but there were at least caveats for their capitulation.

With the score 0-0, the half-time break went on for 36 minutes as the ESB attempted to fix floodlights. When the teams finally got back out Jake Kelly's penalty on 73 minutes for Bray looked to have settled the game, until Stuart Byrne struck an unlikely equaliser on 94 minutes. That wasn't it though as Paul Byrne headed the winner moments later.

That drama nicely sets up Tuesday's fixtures as all of the top four meet... except for the fact a bizarre piece of scheduling has them clashing with the Champions League. In an attempt to sway fans from the TV, St Pat's are offering every visitor to their clash with Derry a free Cream Egg. Across the country, in the most unlikely top-of-the-table clash, Bohemians visit Galway while Cork entertain Drogheda. A set of fixtures that threaten to turn the table again.
