GOOD WEEK: Robert De Niro has been voted the world's greatest living actor, thanks to roles in hits such as The Godfather Part II and Taxi Driver. De Niro's fellow Godfather star Al Pacino came second in the poll, compiled by Empire magazine, followed by Jack Nicholson. Fourth place went to Paul Newman, star of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, followed by the late Marlon Brando . . . who was still alive when voting for the poll began. Silence of the Lambs star Sir Anthony Hopkins came sixth on the list. Sean Connery weighed in at 13. Peter O'Toole, the star of Lawrence of Arabia, was the only Irish actor in the top 30, registering in 22nd place.
BAD WEEK: Jessica Simpson's husband Nick Lachey has been accused of cheating on her with a porn star. Two US publications claimed he had sex with Jessica Jaymes at a stag night party. The celebrity couple have rocketed to stardom, baring the most private moments of their celebrity marriage in the television series Newlyweds. Starmagazine and the National Enquirer both claimed Lachey frolicked with Jaymes at a party for a friend. Jaymes admitted Lachey had watched her indulge in a lesbian sex show . . . but denied anything else happened. "I went home with my bodyguard that night, " she said.
