Fellow critics in the Dublin Film Critics Circle voted Tomas Alfredson's melancholy Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In as best feature at the Dublin International Film Festival, from a shortlist that included The Class, Il Divo and In The Loop. Paolo Sorrentino was voted best director for Il Divo. Tom Hardy won the best performance award ahead of Il Divo's Toni Servillo, Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino and Meryl Steep in Doubt. Best Irish Film was Tomm Moore's The Secret of Kells, which closed the festival. My choices would have been somewhat different – I'd loved to have seen some mention of Jose Luis Guerin's daringly innovative En La Cuidad de Sylvia – but festivals are all the better for diversity.
