The Coast Guard in the North says six young people who were rescued from a raft on Belfast Lough last night are lucky to be alive. The youngsters, who are aged between 12 and 18, floated out into the lake on a makeshift polystyrene raft. Three boats, two helicopters and a passing surfer helped to rescue the group from the water in the Whiteabbey area and they were later treated in hospital for mild hypothermia. None of the group were wearing life jackets.
