Cork hurling manager Gerald McCarthy is expected to confirm his resignation to the current squad at a meeting in Mallow later this evening. The players had been due to train tonight, but the session's been called off, and McCarthy's asked for a room to be made available so he can address the squad. This evening's development follows on from Sunday's meeting between club representatives and the striking 2008 hurlers. The clubs voted overwhelmingly in support of the players at that meeting, backing a motion calling for the removal of McCarthy from his position. Later this evening, the Cork County Board executive is due to meet with club representatives for an "information meeting".
