Fine Gael has proposed that the number of junior ministers be reduced from 20 to 12 as part of the budget cuts. The party has published details of a proposed major overhaul of the Dail and the Seanad. The party wants 20 of the country's 60 Senators to be elected by the public, and adds that the number of parliamentary committees should be reduced from 19 to nine. It also proposes that the Dail would sit four days a week. The proposals should be brought in with next month's mini-Budget according to deputy Phil Hogan Fine Gael spokesperson on the Environment, Heritage and Local Government
