A woman has given birth to six babies in a Belfast hospital. The mother conceived the babies naturally and all are doing well despite being born 14 weeks prematurely. The babies are four girls and two boys, weighing between 1lb 7oz and 2lb 2oz. The mother conceived them without the aid of IVF and they were delivered by caesarean section 14 weeks early. The parents have requested privacy and will not be available for photographs. The operation to deliver the babies safely was a massive one. Thirty members of medical staff were involved in the deliveries which took place in five minutes between 11.19am and 11.24am. The team was led by neonatal consultant Clifford Mayes who says they are doing as well as could be expected.
