Tim Geithner: meeting European finance ministers in London, Frankfurt and Berlin this week

US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner travels to Europe this week for high-level meetings with fellow finance ministers to discuss the European sovereign debt crisis.

"Geithner will meet with European officials to discuss the economic situation in the region and the measures being taken to restore global confidence and financial stability," the Treasury Department said in a statement.

Geithner is scheduled to meet with the new British Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne in London before heading off to the continent for talks with European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet in Frankfurt and a meeting with the German finance minister Wolfgang Schaeuble in Berlin a day later.
