Irish retailer Ian Galvin has teamed up with British fashion designer Tonia Bastyan to launch a new high street label called BASTYAN. The label debuts tomorrow in Brown Thomas on Grafton Street with its spring-summer collection and it will make its UK debut on the high street the following week.
Tonia Bastyan rose to prominence in the 1990s as one half of the Press & Bastyan label. She then worked for Whistles as its senior designer before setting up on her own. The new label will target women in their 30s and Galvin said they hope to attract customers "who want trans-seasonal signature pieces they can integrate with their own wardrobes".
BASTYAN will initially trade from its own branded concessions and the retailer is currently advertising for managers to take charge of concessions in stores like House of Fraser.
Galvin is chairman of Aurora Ireland, whose labels include Karen Millen, Coast, Warehouse and Oasis. He also writes a monthly column for the Sunday Tribune on the retail sector.
