Dress To Impress
Garden party? Check. Summer wedding? Check. Night on the tiles? Check. First date? Check. Might the 'Olivia' dress from quirky, cutesy label Dahlia be the perfect, all occasion dress? Quite possibly. Two sisters, Tracy and Leigh Mitchell, are behind the label which originated in the Portobello market and is available from Brown Thomas stores in Ireland. They describe the look as 'modern eccentric' which sums it up very nicely. €100.
Bill Please
In the world of lairy, arrogant celebrity chefs, Bill Granger comes across as refreshingly down-to-earth – the antipodean Jamie Oliver if you will. The self-taught Aussie cook has three hugely successful restaurants in Australia as well as one in Tokyo and has sold over 800,000 cookbooks. His perpetually sunny nature aside, it's not difficult to see the reason for his success. His recipes are simple but imaginative, 'everyday special', which is exactly how we want to cook and eat at this point in time. Feed Me Now! is his latest book aimed at families who want good food but in a hurry. Chapters include quick, healthy breakfasts, cook-ahead ideas and after-work suppers. Out now.
Bon Voyage
Oh for the golden age of travel when being a voyager was a thrilling experience. Between stringent security, no-frills airlines and the ever-present fear that an extra pair of espadrilles will push you over the baggage allowance, there's little glamorous about travelling these days. These vintage Globe Trotter suitcases are a pleasing reminder of the glory days. Available from www.pedlars.co.uk, they're nicely weathered and customised with genuine vintage hotel and airline stickers. Apart from your hols, they also work well as storage or tables or both. Prices start from £99
Fit to be tied
Scarf tying is what separates fashion rookies from stylistas proper. It's an art form and only when you start faffing with one will you see how many things can go wrong – it 'bunches' in a weird way or it looks too styled and not effortless or else you resemble a member of cabin crew staff. At least if you go for this Kate Moss for TopShop daisy scarf, fashion credibility is guaranteed, no matter how you arrange it about your person. €69

We have to have a cocktail ring
More than any other type of jewellery, a cocktail rings suggest a life of leisurely decadence – no typing, dish washing but a pure diet of martinis and manicures instead. Feast your eyes on this stunning number from the king of costume jewellery, Kenneth Jay Lane. Plus, it's in this summer's hottest shade, coral. €99.27 from www.net-a-porter.com
We're not sure American Apparel
Don't get us wrong. We love American Apparel. We have long been in the thrall of its shiny leggings, lame duffel bags and perfect vests and like the fact that the company is sweatshop free. But we we couldn't buy it here. Once it opens on Grafton Street later this month, the world and its mother will be decked out in AA.
