Wicklow Because it's got nothing to do with work. Work is London. Wicklow is home and family and friends. On the way from the airport, I drive through The Scalp, the cut in the valley and you can just feel the relief from work and you start to relax.
My drums I just love to play them. As I age, it's my way of reconnecting with my youth. I plug in my iPod, put on my earphones and bash the hell out of them, playing anything from the Cult to Neil Young. It's very cathartic. My 23-month-old Milo has a little set and he loves playing alongside me.
My kids I have three children – Quin, who is six, Muireann who is four and Milo will be two in June. In a shallow business like the media, your kids tell you what's what – "Dad, that's rubbish" or "Dad, that was cool". They keep you grounded and honest. I had a heavy week last week with three live TV shows and a rubgy awards in Dublin and I was edgy about it and my little boy turned around to me and said, "Daddy, were you a little bit shy?"
Dolphin Beach House This is a Connemara B&B I stumbled across accidentally. We go to the west a lot and we rented a house and got food poisoning – probably something I cooked. We were feeling crap and everything was booked and we came across Dolphin Beach. It's the best place, probably my favourite place in the world. It's run by a lovely family, the Foyles and it's really laid back and very beautiful with mad, quirky stuff in the room. They let you have the run of the place, and it's down to the people mainly. People make a place.
Being angry I love being pissed off and I love giving out and getting grumpy and narky about things that have nothing to do with me whatsoever. It's a sign of ageing!
Hangovers I detest them. Everybody hates them but the hangovers I have now… When I was younger, it was a scar and a war wound – "I'm dying, what a fantastic night." Now I get hungover without getting drunk. It's three pints now and it's really curtailed my social life.
Bad manners It's funny, although I love giving out about stuff, I hate people who don't thank me for holding doors open for them or who push ahead of me in queues. I have to tell people when they've been rude. I'll run after them and say, "I just held open that door for you, what are you going to say?" It's cathartic, but in a different way to the drums.
Dublin airport It's like a really badly extended house that they keep adding things to. The people who work there are brilliant and patient and they'd have to be to work there. You have to walk so far to get through it. Gate B78 is the worst – it's usually a flight from there at 7am on a Saturday going over to the East Midlands and it must be a 36-mile walk to get there. And the queues in the morning – you could be there for an hour. Rip it up and start again.
Interviews and texting Because I suffer from post interview and post text anxiety. It's not that I mind interviews. I'm a human being and we all have egos and I enjoy talking about myself but I worry about what I've said afterwards. If I text someone and they don't reply in an hour, I get anxious and then I send another text to see if they got the first one, and then I just get annoying.
