New literary talent Fiachra Sheridan has revealed plans to follow his uncle Jim and cousin Kirsten into the movies. Speaking at the launch of his debut novel, The Runners, in Larkin College, Dublin, last Wednesday, Fiachra (35) says there are already plans to turn the book into a film.
"I've written a screenplay version with my dad, Peter Sheridan. He has had a lot of experience doing films scripts over the years, so was a great person to work with," Fiachra says. Irish company Zanzibar Films snapped up the resulting script, with Fiachra hopeful the feature will go into production later this year.
The story follows two best friends, Bobby and Jay, who become mixed up in all sorts of trouble when asked to deliver video cassettes around inner-city Dublin.
"I suppose you would call it a tale of lost innocence. I'd love to see it brought to the screen because I think there's a strong story there," said the 35-year-old writer, who certainly has a full life to draw on for his plots. His CV includes a career as a hedge-fund manager and spells playing for League of Ireland soccer teams Home Farm and Kilkenny City. Such were the young Sheridan's football talents as a teenager he won a soccer scholarship to Radford University, Virginia.
