Rumours are flying that this September will see Lorraine Keane back on TV screens - but this time on the couch of RTé's Afternoon Show.
If it is true, Lorraine is staying tight lipped. "I can tell you categorically that during the last two months, I haven't been speaking to anyone in RTé," she said. "The only person I'm in contact with is my agent Noel Kelly. The next job will be something I won't even be thinking about until after the summer. I'm just having too good a time. This is the first summer I have had off since I was in school."
Having spent the last two months holidaying in Florida and France, the Dubliner says it was a relief to get away from the media storm sparked by her sudden resignation from TV3.
But back in Ireland last week she said she is still hearing rumours about what prompted the move. Among them is speculation that in order to cut costs, TV3 asked her to take a 50% wage cut. Not true, says Lorraine.
"My leaving TV3 had nothing to do with money, they always paid crap anyway. People are looking for a story and grasping at straws. The truth is my children are growing up and I wanted to spend more time with them. And there were changes being made at Xposé which I felt weren't taking the show in the right direction."
She says she's flattered station bosses are staging a nationwide talent search to find her replacement. Running for eight episodes over the summer, Total Xposure aims to find a new TV star to take Lorraine's place on the show, which she left last April. Lorraine says: "The first I knew about it was when I got a phone call from a journalist going, 'This is such an insult, wait until you hear what TV3 are doing?' They made it sound tacky but that wasn't my reaction. I just laughed. A whole dedicated series to finding my replacement? I never realised I was that important?"
However Lorraine (36) admits she won't be tuning in and says it sounds a good deal easier than her own route into television.
"Back when I started you worked your way up anyway you could. For instance, when I got my first job doing AA Roadwatch on RTé radio, every weekend I'd be in RTE's training centre working with new directors and producers. It was the only place you could go to get experience working in front of the cameras.
"All that's changed now and I guess this show proves it."
Lorraine will be taking part in the Flora Mini Marathon tomorrow in Dublin city centre.
