I'm looking for two tickets to Jedward's Dublin concerts in April. I want to cheer up my nine-year-old daughter Rachel. She fractured her arm badly recently and is feeling down in the dumps about it.
The fracture happened on a family trip to Carlingford. A group of us went walking up the mountain and Rachel was having a great time messing around in the snow, throwing snowballs at everyone but on the way down, she slipped in the muck and whatever way she fell, she fractured her arm. We spent the rest of the day at the hospital. They put a temporary cast on her arm and sent her home for the night. Then I had to bring her back in the following day so they could put her under anaesthetic and move the arm into the correct position. It would have been too painful without the anaesthetic. The poor thing was terrified and it was all quite traumatic for her. She'll have the cast on for four weeks or more and she hates the thought of it.
When I heard about Jedward's concerts, I decided to try and surprise her with tickets because she's a massive Jedward fan and I knew it would lift her spirits. I went on eBay and Ticketmaster but had no joy getting tickets. They'd all sold out immediately. I spotted a couple for sale in Buy and Sell but the people were charging €120 per ticket, which is just way too expensive for a child's concert. It's crazy money.
I put the ad on Gumtree because I'm determined to try and get my hands on a couple of reasonably priced tickets for her. From the moment Rachel saw Jedward on The X-Factor, she just adored them and never missed the show when they were on. She always got such a kick out of their performances on the live shows with all the jumping off podiums. She especially loved the time they did the Britney Spears number, which was brilliant and she was devastated when they were voted out of the competition. To be honest, I think we both were.
She's always on the lookout for them, whether it's going through the papers or finding out when they're on TV. She watched their appearance on the Late Late Toy Show at Christmas and she still talks about one of them ripping their trousers or something, which she found very funny. She also has their new single, the Vanilla Ice one. It's on constantly in the car at the moment, so I've had to listen to it quite a lot as well.
Initially, I didn't tell Rachel that I was trying to get the tickets because I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get them and I didn't want to disappoint her even more but I've come clean now. She's never been to a concert before. I'd love for Jedward to be her first gig. I wanted to take her to Hannah Montana earlier in the year because like most girls of her age, she's a big Miley Cyrus fan, but unfortunately that didn't happen. I tried to get tickets for the concert but I couldn't. It just never seems to work out.
This time I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Gumtree will work its magic. Rachel's such a good girl. She's very independent, know what she likes and that's it. She wouldn't be a really girly-girl. She likes go-carting and being outside and now with her arm, she hasn't been able to do much of that kind of thing.
I don't think I could even put it into words how excited she would be if she got to go to the concert. She'd just lose it. She wouldn't be able to believe her luck. I'd like to make it into a special day for her and give her a massive treat that she'll never forget. She deserves it.
No replies to the ad yet but I haven't given up.
