One of our long-time favourites – despite the name it will work just as well on other parts of the body. It gives legs a bit of shimmer and leaves them feeling incredibly soft thanks to the vitamin E it contains dô.

Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Self-Tan Gelee, €28

This is pleasant smelling, easy to apply and gives a good golden/natural colour. It only takes five minutes to dry and is a good initiation into the world of fake tanning for novices.

Model Co Tan Airbrush in a Can, €35

This cult Aussie brand is loved by beauty editors and its easy to see why – this goes on super easily, provides a really even coverage and it's pigmented so that you get a instant glow while the self-tanner beneath develops over hours. Can be used on the face too.

St Tropez Instant Glow Mousse, €20

From one of the best known fake-tan brands around, this is a new departure for ST because it's wash-off, so the margin for orange error is slight. Has a good colour and will stay in place until you apply soap and water.

Tantastic Instant Spray Tan, €25

Although this essentially a spray applicator, you'll still need your mitt to rub it in as the spray is actually quite runny. Because the tan is tinted you can see exactly where you've sprayed. It dries very quickly and doesn't smell too bad at all. From pharmacies.
