The Artane School of Music, home of the Artane Band, has applied to Dublin City Council for rezoning of its site

The Artane Band, who regularly perform at the All-Ireland final which will today pit Kilkenny against Tipperary, could be on the move.

The Artane School of Music, where the band are based, has asked Dublin City Council to rezone the site for district centre use because it is underused and the move would "facilitate the release of the... site for more appropriate commercial use" as it is adjacent to the Artane Castle district centre.

If the rezoning gets the go-ahead the site could be revitalised "subject to an agreement with adjoining landowners", the submission states.

The existing music school building requires upgrading, the submission states, and the school could be relocated within the area.

The 3.2-acre site has two buildings: the school of music and St David's church, which has been used by the Artane Band for the storage of equipment and memorabilia.
