Pattern, Orla Kiely's first book, reveals what informs the Irish designer's concepts and dissects her patterns from all angles, including colour, scale and texture. A lovely coffee table number and a great present for the fashionista in your life. It's €25.99 from eason.ie.
You can keep your Hello Kitty because our hearts lie with Dutch bunny Miffy, who is 55 this year. To celebrate, American Retro is launching a Miffy lamp which might be aimed at children but which will please kidults too. It's €225 from www.americanretrolondon.com
Sometimes the onslaught of autumn/winter fashion can be exhausting. So many different looks, so many different items you now need in your wardrobe and quite a few things you're just not sure about, mid-length skirts being a case in point. But sometimes, you come across a look that makes you just itch to go shopping. Asos.com did it for us with this hooded cape (€84), leather trousers (€60.50) and lace boots (€103).
There's something particularly inviting about this Ikea Klippan sofa, perhaps because it's patterned like a cosy jumper circa 1973. Buy this and a box set of The West Wing, and put your favourite takeaway on speed dial, and that's your winter sorted. In store from mid October, €199.
This season, it's perfectly acceptable to have your underwear on show, and when it's as pretty as this '50s-style offering from Marks & Spencer, who could blame you? Possibly not a look to be rocked in the office – pair it with a pencil skirt and cashmere cardi. Bra top, €24, high waist knickers, €16.
Best-dressed hair this autumn is anointed in Moroccan Oil. There's been a lot of buzz about it, but don't let the hype distract from the fact that this works – a pea-sized amount gives a glossy finish. Not cheap (€38), but lasts ages. From hair salons.
There's a lot of happening in the Absolut Fringe Festival, running until 26 September. It's an embarrassment of theatrical, comedic, musical and dance riches. We recommend checking out artist Fergal McCarthy's Liffeytown, a public art installation of red and green floating houses between Ha'Penny and O'Connell bridges – a powerful commentary on the property bubble. See www.fringefest.com.
