A report in your issue (News, 23 November) mentioned moves to re-name the Luas bridge in Dundrum after the late Deputy Séamus Brennan. This beautiful bridge already commemorates another local man, William Dargan who lived in nearby Mount Anville, and who was the builder of 1,000 miles of Irish railway lines.
I sincerely hope that the local authority and the Railway Procurement Agency will allow the Dargan tribute to remain. Should they decide otherwise, my view is that it should be rededicated in gracious memory of Letitia and Naomi Overend, whose philanthropic gesture in bequeathing Airfield Farm to the people of Dundrum continues to be of real benefit to the local community.
