Leo Varadkar, Fine Gael's backbench chihuahua, continues to make a spectacle of himself at every available opportunity.

The Dublin West TD was first out of the traps on Wednesday night to call for Mary Harney's head after the "revelation" that she had had a haircut at the taxpayers' expense in Florida.

Is this the same Leo Varadkar who travelled to Malaysia on a €3,000 planning junket three years ago and, when he was asked about it by his local Community Voice paper, said: "Just because Kuala Lumpur is in Asia, it is hardly alien from Dublin 15". I presume he went to the barber before he headed off.

Diarmuid Doyle is one of about four Irish journalists who consistently get to the heart of the matter in modern Irish politics. I admire his integrity, and I remember his courage a few years ago when he published an open letter to the Garda Commissioner in the Sunday Tribune.
