Rural revellers were targeted in a Europe-wide drink-driving blitz last night.


Designated drivers at nightclubs in Fermoy, Castlebar, Naas, Ennis and Letterkenny were to be breathalysed by volunteers promoting responsible motoring. The initiative, EU Night Without Accident (ENWA), was due to take place in another 180 nightclubs in 20 countries at the same time. Noel Brett, of the Road Safety Authority said anyone drinking alcohol should look for alternative transport.
