There's something fishy about Oasis returning to perform again at Slane next year.
I can reveal that on their last visit to Co Meath in 1995, supporting REM, the Gallagher brothers took some time out to go fishing on the Boyne. Supplying the fishing rods were couriers Brendan Beamish and Ken Jenkins.
Beamish told me, "Myself and Ken were fishing on the Boyne that afternoon when Liam Gallagher came up and asked if he could borrow my fishing rod. The next thing we had Noel Gallagher up asking if he could borrow Ken's rod. They're the most dangerous band on the planet and here were the two wild men of Oasis fishing outside Slane Castle."
Back then Oasis could have any number of hits but weren't so lucky with the fish and returned the rods to their owners later that afternoon without even a single bite.
"I never minded except whatever way Liam was fishing, he wrecked the spinner on my rod. They became megastars within a year and never off the TV with me telling everybody 'that Liam Gallagher fella owes me a spinner'," he said. However, when Oasis returned to play at the Point, the younger Gallagher came good.
"I met Liam backstage and when I told him about my rod, he apologised and gave me some signed T-shirts. I think he got frustrated that day because he couldn't catch anything."
