Nobody knows how Edel Kelly's health might have fared if the one and only bioposy she had on her breast had been properly diagnosed. At the very least she might have bought more time with her young sons.

Her death was a terrible tragedy for her family, but their pain hasn't ended. When they sought answers they were fobbed off. Ennis Hospital told them she was an isolated case.

We now know this was blatantly untrue – Ann Moriarty, also wrongly diagnosed, died a month before her. The Kellys and Edel's partner Noel McGreene understandably now wonder if there are any others.

Before she passed away Edel Kelly wanted to sue the HSE for what she had suffered due to their mistakes. She was adamant she didn't want the same thing to happen to anybody else.

No amount of compensation can ever make up for the loss of her life. And an internal inquiry can't answer her family's many questions. If the people of Clare are to have any confidence in their health service the minister for health must order an independent inquiry as a matter of urgency.
