A Canadian academic has slammed Thomas the Tank Engine for being sexist and classist. Shauna Wilton, a professor of political sciences at the University of Alberta, presented a study on the cartoon based on plot, character and theme analysis of 23 episodes. Wilton surmised that the sexism arises out of a lack of female representation as just eight characters out of the 49 are female. The class divide issue centred around the dominance of the wealthy Fat Controller at the top of the ladder, with Thomas and his friends at the bottom.
