HIT says something when the celebs at the IFTAs sre such nobodies that the organisers can't recognise them.
Covering the awards last week, I noticed that the PRs running the event worked off sheets featuring the faces of their invited guests.
Each time "a celeb" – and I mean that in the IFTA sense of the word – landed on the red carpet, a frantic look was thrown at the mug shots to establish their identity.
Being fair, some of the journalists weren't much better. When Aidan Gillen, star of cult US TV show The Wire, was presented to the waiting media, one of the first questions he was asked was the old reliable, "Is this your first time in Ireland?"
Replied an irked Gillen, "I'm from Drumcondra."
Give me the TV Now Awards over this circus anytime. Some people did have a good time, though. I hear actor Michael Fassbender, whose film Hunger won six awards, was up until 6am singing his head off with Ryan Tubridy.
