I am contacting you concerning disturbing news I received today about the Hill of Tara and M3 situation.
I hope that you will publish this letter. As it is close to my heart and it should be close to all Irish people's hearts.
The minister for the environment, John Gormley, who is supposed to be the leader of the supposedly Green Party, has broken his promise to nominate the Hill of Tara as a Unesco site at the world heritage committee meeting in Seville this week.
He is now going back on the promise he made last December.
In the process, he also spent a lot of the taxpayers' money on 15 consultants, employed to identify and draw a list of suitable sites and properties. I find it both insensitive and disrespectful to our ancestors to destroy one of our most important heritage sites. And for what? To build another motorway, put more cars on the road and more pollution in the environment. Yet again, the Irish government has let the Irish people down.
