John McGuinness does not deserve all the plaudits given to him by members of the media, including Conor McMorrow (News, 26 April). McGuinness has been a member of the majority government party for a considerable time. He supported their policies and voted for them on a daily basis in the Dáil. There is nothing wrong with that.
The only problem is that now some of those policies have been called into question by the deterioration in the economy and the need to take very unpopular decisions. Instead of taking responsibility for his part in mistakes that were made, he blames his colleagues and tries to sound as if he is a member of the opposition. He is arrogant, self-serving and hypocritical and does not deserve the indulgence being accorded to him by members of the media.
