Gardaí in Limerick have arrested a man in connection with the investigation into the murder of a teenager in 2007.

Jeffrey Hannon (19) was found dead on an open green area in a housing estate at Galtee Drive near the Galvone Industrial Estate on 22 November 2007. The father-of-one died from serious head injuries.

Gardaí arrested a man in his late teens in the midlands area on Friday night.

He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Roxboro Road Garda station.

This brings to nine the number of people to be arrested in connection with this murder. Hannon, the father of a baby daughter, had not long returned home from England when he was murdered.

He was last seen alive by his mother at a bonfire near his home in the early hours of the morning and his body was discovered nearby hours later. Gardaí said at the time the attack was one of the most vicious they had seen.

No clear motive has ever been established for the killing but gardaí say it was not feud-related.
