Recession be damned: most parents, grandparents, godparents, uncles, aunts friends and neighbours still intend to give generously to youngsters making their first communion.
Gift card company One4all has just carried out a survey to find out how much people are coughing up these days – or, as it puts it so politely, the sort of communion "gift-giving etiquette" people are following.
Parents are giving anything from €100 to €150, grandparents are still finding €20 to €50, while poor old godparents are reckoning on having to write cheques or buy gift cards for up to €100.
One thing they are not giving, however, is bank shares.
