In a 24-hour period we had the Green leader John Gormley tell us on TV news how wonderful it is that his party's proposal to have an elected Dublin lord mayor is coming to fruition, and we got the news that hospital beds for children are being thrown out with the rubbish.

Welcome to the politics of cruel expediency via the new PDs, the jolly Green giants of hypocrisy. Let's get working now in spending all those lovely euro notes in the fine old Irish tradition of wasting taxpayers' money. An elected lord mayor. Oh, the humanity.
