Have €130, will fly – to 10 destinations in a month
Jennifer Bray has found a cure to the recession – one month's travel all over Europe for the cost of two return train journeys from Dublin to Cork

Is the recession getting you down? Is the thought of the long, dark winter ahead making you depressed? The Sunday Tribune has found the perfect antidote. Ten flights to 10 different countries in the space of a month for just €130.

With a bit of careful planning it is possible to jet around Europe to sunnier climes on Ryanair for the cost of two return train journeys from Dublin to Cork.

The odyssey could start as soon as the 16 November when you pack your bags and wave goodbye to gloomy Ireland and take a Ryanair flight bound for Liverpool. This costs just €4, including all taxes and charges.

After spending two days on Merseyside you head back to John Lennon Airport to catch a €16.50 flight to Barcelona where you enjoy temperatures in excess of 20 degrees for three days.

The next stop is Oslo, the capital of Norway. With a metro, tram, bus, rail and ferry service, transport is notably cheap.

This is the most expensive flight on the itinerary, costing €26 (still cheaper than going from Dublin to Waterford by train).

Of course, it pales in comparison to the €2,291 that was spent on Tánaiste Mary Coughlan during a St Patrick's Day ministerial trip to the city.

After four days, you pack up again and hop on a plane to London for a miniscule €6.

The English capital is bursting with things to see and do so you should have no trouble spending four days before taking the Tube to the airport to fly to the next destination, Frankfurt in Germany.

This flight on 28 November will set you back €4.40 and after four enjoyable days presumably stuffing your face with, eh, Frankfurters, you take to the skies again bound for Porto in Portugal.

This flight costs €20.29 in total, and two days can be spent roaming the city in December temperatures, which can reach 25 degrees, while sampling the local speciality, port.

The next stop is Gran Canaria, one of the most favoured destinations for sun lovers. The flight costs €9.99, and this sojourn lasts five days before the next stop in Edinburgh for three nights at €15.

This is followed by a one-and-a-half hour flight journey to Memmingen, a short distance from Munich for €4.42.

You arrive on 12 December, before heading back to reality to Dublin on the 15 December, just in time for Christmas, with the return leg costing €24.

The 10 flights come to a total of €130, averaging a recession-busting €13 per leg.
