A POLITICAL delegation from the North travelled to meet President Muammar Gaddafi in Libya yesterday for talks in relation to the regime's supply of weapons material to the IRA.

Three MPs from Northern Ireland and three members of the House of Lords were invited by Gaddafi to discuss attempts to secure redress for Libya's involvement in supplying the materials and compensation for victims.

Semtex supplied to the IRA by Libya was one of the most common weapons employed during the Troubles. It is understood that the North African regime regularly supplied the IRA with explosives throughout the 1980s.

The DUP's Jeffery Donaldson, who is part of the delegation, said: "We may not reach agreement at this stage but we think it is right that we should have the opportunity to put the case for the victims."
