A GROUP of 30 TDs and senators has requested that overseas aid is not dramatically cut in next month's budget. They insisted that further cuts to aid would have "very little impact" on the country's financial situation.

"Withdrawing funding to well-established partners, programmes and beneficiaries is a short-sighted and inefficient means of protecting a substantial investment over the course of Irish Aid's existence," they said in a co-signed letter published yesterday.

It was signed by members of all the main political parties.
