President Mary McAleese praised women prisoners in the Dochas Centre who are trying to turn their lives around while serving sentences.


Speaking on a visit to mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of the women's centre at Mountjoy Prison yesterday, President McAleese thanked both the support services and the women who sought to benefit from them.


"The women who seek their help, the women who try to improve themselves and their lives also are due thanks for their courage in trying to turn their lives around," she said.
