GARDAí said yesterday the death of a man who was discovered after being crushed to death in a bin lorry was a tragic accident.

The assistant state pathologist Margaret Bolster carried out a post-mortem yesterday afternoon and it confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances involved in his death.

The body of the man, believed to be from Waterford and in his 30s, was discovered at a waste sorting facility on Friday near Listowel, Co Kerry. Gardaí now suspect the man may have fallen asleep in a bin and, without waking, was crushed in a lorry as it went about collecting waste in the town. It is understood the dead man had been visiting Listowel as part of the annual harvest horse racing festival.
