I decided I would celebrate 'Arthur's Day' by calling in to one of the all-too-few local craft breweries in Dublin. This, I felt, would give me a flavour of what real stout tasted like up to 60-plus years ago, before the introduction of the chemically-infused, tasteless and watery pap that goes by the name of stout in the three brands that dominate our market today. Perhaps I shouldn't have been so surprised to find that the local brewery in question was thronged.
