Veronica Perroncel: lurid claims

Vanessa Perroncel claimed she was depicted as "some kind of prostitute" by the media following allegations she had a relationship with married former England football captain John Terry.

The French model described being besieged by journalists as lurid claims about her private life sparked a media feeding frenzy.

In her first interview since news of the alleged affair broke, Perroncel, 34, who has a son with Terry's former England and Chelsea team-mate Wayne Bridge, told The Guardian she thought the press had "gone mad".

"They made out that I'm some kind of prostitute. That's really what they're saying. And the stories are untrue. They have gone mad." She asked: "Who are they to do this?"

Recalling the scenes outside her Surrey home, she said: "Masses of journalists are outside my door. And they ring the bell, and I say no, and they keep doing it and doing it. They're putting notes through the letterbox, offering me money and then more money.

"I have my three-year-old son, he keeps asking who are these bad men taking pictures. I just tried to go on as if nothing was happening.

"I told him not to look at them."

The model signed up publicist Max Clifford amid the furore, but insisted that she never intended to sell her story, despite being offered huge sums of money.

She said: "I never asked (Clifford) to sell my story. I never wanted to sell my story. Max said: 'People are offering money, £200,000, £250,000.' I don't want it."

Meanwhile, the father of John Terry was yesterday charged with dealing cocaine.

Ted Terry, 55, is due to appear in court next month accused of supplying a class A drug.

Terry was arrested following an alleged incident at a wine bar in Chafford Hundred, Essex in November.
