I congratulate the Sunday Tribune and your Brussels correspondent David Cronin for outlining EU grants to Israeli military companies (News, 27 June).

The article focused on two multimillion-euro technology grants which are likely to be given to Israel under the EU technology research grants scheme, administered by the directorate of Maire Geoghegan-Quinn in Brussels. It is heartening that some of our Irish media tell us what is happening in our world, and in the EU in particular. It is vital that we know the detail of things which often slip under the radar but which have major implications for justice in our world.

It is outrageous Europe would reward the rogue state Israel for its many accelerating and multiplying crimes by awarding EU grants to Israeli war companies.

I do not apologise for the words "rogue state", since that is what the state of Israel is. A country which breaks international laws and treaties and conventions repeatedly, and ignores calls from the international community, and oppresses its own citizens and the citizens of its adjacent limbo state, and whose army is partly out of control, and which snubs the UN, and which refuses to enter nuclear non-proliferation talks is indeed a rogue state.
