FORMER Fine Gael TD George Lee returned to the airwaves yesterday with his new Mind Your Business show on RTÉ Radio 1.
Lee's new job is more soft-focus than anything the LSE graduate and former RTÉ economics editor has done before. The show opened with Lee interviewing Ireland's first vuvuzela importer. Rugby star Jamie Heaslip was next. Heaslip had been at the celebrity wedding of the year in Mohill on Friday so Lee offered Brian O'Driscoll and Amy Huberman his best, saying, "I'm sure it was a great day all around and congratulations to the happy couple."
After this Lee began a panel discussion with Brendan Keenan, the doyen of Irish business journalism, and comedian Jarlath Regan. Regan admitted he did not know anything about business and asked if FTSE was the same as 'footsie'. Discussing property tax, Regan asked if it was fair that people should pay tax on something they had already paid for.
"Could we not collect money from people to watch people like Michael Fingleton fired out of a cannon?" he said.
