The government is giving very generous tax breaks to well-heeled writers and artists, while people whose wages and incomes have been decimated are being fined and jailed because they have no TV licence. This need not happen as the non-commercial aspects of RTÉ could be financed out of the profits of Euro millions and Winning Streak. This money should be ring fenced and subject to public examination. So why haven't the government abolished the dreaded TV licence? And put €160 in the pockets of hard-pressed families.
